About Us
Women Environmental Programme (WEP) Ghana is a women-led civil society organization dedicated to advancing gender equality, environmental sustainability, climate justice and inclusive development. As the Ghana chapter of the Women Environmental Programme Network, WEP Ghana works with women, youth, persons with disabilities, vulnerable groups, local communities, civil society organizations, government institutions and development partners.
We strengthen women's leadership, promote sustainable livelihoods, enhance natural resource governance and advance gender-responsive climate action.
Through policy advocacy, capacity building, research, community engagement and strategic partnerships, WEP Ghana supports locally led solutions that address the interconnected challenges of gender inequality, environmental degradation and economic exclusion.
We believe sustainable development can only be achieved when women, local communities, young people, vulnerable groups and persons with disabilities are empowered as equal partners in shaping policies, promoting sustainable food systems, managing natural resources and driving economic transformation.
WEP Ghana remains committed to partnering with governments, development finance institutions, civil society organizations and local communities to advance gender-transformative policies and programmes that contribute to resilient, inclusive and sustainable development across Ghana and Africa.
About WEP
Women Environmental Programme (WEP) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, non-religious and voluntary organization formed in April 1997 by a group of women in Kaduna State. WEP envisions a world where the lives of women and youth are positively transformed.
Although WEP emerged in response to environmental pollution by industries in Kaduna State, it has expanded its interventions over the years to include conflict transformation, climate change and governance.
WEP has ECOSOC special consultative status and observer status with UNEP and the UNFCCC. It has served as an Organizing Partner of the Women's Major Group and is the focal point for Global Environment Facility civil society organizations in West and Central Africa. Since 1997, WEP has positively impacted more than 20 million lives through its work in environment, governance, climate change, women and youth empowerment, peace and conflict transformation.
WEP's overall goal is to promote a sustainable society while addressing gender injustices relating to the environmental, economic and social rights of women, children and youth.
